JOHNNY SWAGGER

Levar Earl Williams Aka Johnny Swagger was born October 5, 1988 in Norfolk, Virginia. At the age of 6, he fell in love with the music culture. By 8 years old, he was already writing his own music. He and his brother started recording their original lyrics on the best instrumentals at the time on an old school karaoke and cassette tape player. He and his brother were eight years apart so his brother didn’t take him seriously at first until he showed him he was dedicated. Johnny Swagger had to find a way to prove to his brother that he wanted to be an artist as well as prove to labels and A & R’s.

Everyone asks Johnny Swagger how he got the name Johnny from Levar. Well it all started when Johnny’s nephew, Johnathan Oldham, was 3 years old. He told Johnny Swagger when he grows up, he wants to be just like his uncle. After that, Johnny Swagger said that he would dedicate everything he does with his music to his nephew. His nephew is now 7 years old and still looks up to Johnny Swagger.

At age 12, Johnny Swagger started to battle. Although he was only in middle school, he had the flow of a veteran. Listening to Big L,
The Notorious B.I.G., Jay-Z, and Butch Cassidy, he mastered the art of punch lines. Still undefeated to this day, he found out fast that battles were not going to get his name out. Knowing this, he studied the craft and sounds of Nas, Talib Kweli, and Common Sense. This made him a more conscious and real rapper. Growing up in a bad neighborhood, he saw and did things that people would only imagine. He never showed emotion, he only expressed it through his music.
